Texarkana Downtown Christmas Lighting/Time Capsule Burial, Dec 8
We attended the Courthouse/Post Office/Christmas Tree Lighting and Time Capsule burial last Friday night, December 8 in downtown Texarkana and the weather cooperated, thank goodness.
As you may recall, Texarkana had about a 60% chance of rain last Friday evening and there were a few umbrellas scattered about, just in case. Luckily no one needed them and everything turned out very well done.
Texarkana Chamber of Commerce President Denis Washington opened up the festivities with a few remarks and a prayer.
Followed by a speech from Texarkana, Texas Mayor Bob Bruggeman.
A few more remarks from Texarkana, Arkansas Mayor Allan Brown.
Then US Congressman Nathaniel Moran, Representative of Texas District 1 gave his speech and had the honor of counting down the lighting.
The next item up for the evening was the Time Capsule burial.
Shortly after the time capsule went in, the on-hand DIGnitatries got to shovel in the first dirt.
Some of the lucky citizens in attendance got to do the same.
Including yours truly below.
And Mario Garcia too.
The Time Capsule will not be opened until 2073, my guess is that was my only time to get to see it, but what an honor it was to be a small part of the evening.
Congratulations TXK150 volunteers, you have done a fantastic job with Texarkana's Sesquicentennial.
Happy Birthday once again Texarkana, we look good for 150 years old!
