New Pickleball Courts Coming to Texarkana’s Southwest Center
Ribbon cutting planned for September 17
Pickleball players in Texarkana will soon have eight new courts to enjoy at the Southwest Center.
The City of Texarkana, Texas Parks and Recreation Department and the Texarkana Pickleball Club will celebrate the completion of the new Rotary Pickleball Courts with a ribbon-cutting Thursday, September 17, at 6 PM. The Southwest Center is located at 3222 W. 7th Street.
The new courts are the result of a community effort involving the Texarkana Pickleball Club, the City of Texarkana, local organizations, businesses, and donors.
The Texarkana Pickleball Club was formed in 2024 and later became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The club began raising money to help expand pickleball facilities at the Southwest Center.
The City committed $120,000 in Hotel Occupancy Tax funds to match early donations the club raised. MTG Engineers worked with the City and the club to develop plans for the eight new courts.
Pickleball continues to grow locally!
Pickleball participation has grown steadily in Texarkana over the past six years, bringing players of various ages and skill levels to the Southwest Center.
The club's most recent tournament attracted 110 players for a two-day event, with many traveling nearly 100 miles to participate.
Parks and Recreation Director Keith Beason said the project shows what can happen when community groups and the City work together.
“Their organization identified a need in our community and approached City staff to develop a plan to bring their vision to life.”

How Can You Get Involved?
Texarkana Pickleball Club President David Mims said the club is looking forward to continued growth and greater involvement in community recreation.
The public is invited to attend the September 17 ribbon-cutting. Visitors will also have an opportunity to tour the Southwest Center and see other recent improvements to the facility.
