The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department is warning us about a new scam that is local and it will come to you by a text message involving Red River Credit Union.

A lot of people in our area bank with Red River Credit Union, so it is sad to see that scammers are preying on this fact to get to your financial information.

The Text Scam's Deceptive Message

The Texarkana, Arkansas, Police stated on their Facebook page that several people have reported receiving a text message that appears to come from Red River Credit Union. The text sent is a warning to you of  “pending charges” on your account and the message includes a link for more details. Police say the link is a scam. If you click on the link you will risk giving your personal and financial information to the scammers.

How to Protect Yourself and Your Information

Police are reminding residents not to respond to the message and not click any of the links in the text message. Instead, they advise you to delete the text immediately. If you are worried about your account, then you should contact Red River Credit Union directly using official phone numbers or through their website.

These scammers are sneaky and very low to pose as a local, well-known, liked and trusted business. And what's even scarier is that it looks real.

These scams are designed to make you panic and trick you into giving them your personal information. Do Not Fall For This. If you receive a message like this from Red River Credit Union or any other financial institution, please report it to them so they can warn their customers, too.
