Have a Aspiring Young Author? This A&M-Texarkana Summer Camp Is Perfect
If you have a young writer in the family, make sure to take advantage of this great summer program. Texas A&M University–Texarkana, in partnership with the East Texas Writing Project, is bringing back a popular summer opportunity for young storytellers with the 36th Annual Young Writers’ Workshop (YWW).
The week-long program will be held Monday, July 6th - Friday, July 10th, on the A&M-Texarkana campus inside the Anita and Truman Arnold University Center, with sessions running each morning from 8 AM to 12 PM.
The workshop is open to students ages 6 and up who are entering grades 1 through 12, making it a wide-ranging creative space for kids and teens at different stages of their writing journey. Registration is $55 per student, and a limited number of scholarships are available for families who may need assistance.

A Week of Creativity and Storytelling at Texas A&M Texarkana
Led by Dr. Bill Lancaster, Instructor of Composition at Texas A&M University–Texarkana, along with other English faculty and staff, the workshop gives students the chance to explore different genres and build confidence in their writing. This year’s themes include “Places and Spaces,” “Instigations and Investigations,” and “Heroines and Heroes.”
By the end of the week, students will have created their own original “literary masterpiece,” which they’ll share during a closing ceremony with family, friends, and campus guests.

Dr. Lancaster says the goal is to keep writing fun and creative, especially as schools often tie reading and writing closely to testing. The workshop is designed to give students room to imagine, experiment, and enjoy the process.
