Get some new shoes and get ready to go on a journey. The state of Texas is planning on a new trail that will be the biggest in the state.

If you love spending time outside, you're going to love what is coming to Texas. To coincide with the 200th anniversary of Texas' Independence, the state is building a 100 mile trail from The Alamo in San Antonio to the state Capitol in Austin.

This trail will need to be completed by January 1, 2036. The route will connect Barton, San Marcos, Comal, and San Antonio Springs, weaving together natural springs, historic sites, and scenic landscapes, according to Chron. "The Texas Bicentennial Trail will showcase the beauty, character, and independence of the State of Texas and provide significant economic impact to the state," said State Representative Will Metcalf.

What is the Current Longest Trail in Texas?

If you want to get in shape for the Texas Bicentennial Trail when it opens in just over a decade, you can go check out The Lone Star Hiking Trail. The trail starts just South of Richards, Texas and ends North-West of Cleveland, Texas. From start to end it's just over 96 miles. You can check out what that looks like below.

The law that Governor Abbott signed explicitly bars the use of eminent domain for acquiring land along the route, addressing concerns that have stalled similar projects in the past. This sounds like a very ambitious project that the state is working on. They have just over a decade to figure it all out. We will see how it turns out once it is completed.
