El Paso is going to have a wet week and those crazy hot summer temps are already here so, if you want to stay comfy, better make sure your air conditioner is up to the job.

El Paso enjoys a very dry climate which means, we don't really "need" HVAC or "refrigerated air" units. They're super nice to have but not really the necessity they are in other climates.

Except during monsoon season which officially started last week. That's when El Pasoans without HVAC systems wish they did have 'em.

Swamp coolers are designed to pull air through moistened pads which cools it before it enters your home. A simple, adequate way to deal with El Paso's record setting heat.

When it's humid though, like during our monsoon season, there is too much moisture in the air and, when it comes to cooling, they don't do s**t. This week, El Paso is expecting rain and from now - September, we'll get most of our yearly total.

This might be the time to look into getting an HVAC system or at least a small window or indoor unit. Just sayin'.

Why Are HVAC Systems Better?

They aren't affected by changes in humidity and keep constant, adjustable temps. However, they do need proper maintenance and if they don't get it, they won't work. With triple digits already here and higher ones on the way, the last thing you want is your A/C to conk out.

The most important step you can take to keep your HVAC happy is super easy. Change the filter(s). Seriously, if they get too dirty, they'll absolutely stop working. After our recent dust hurricanes, yours is probably all jacked up so check it or have it checked before the heat really kicks in.
