Texas side police say one man is hospitalized, another is in jail, after an apparent hit and run crash. Authorities were called to the intersection of New Boston Road and Westlawn Drive around 7:20 pm yesterday evening.

Officers found the driver of a moped, 36 year old Steven Davis, who was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the second vehicle apparently fled the scene and was found at a home in Wake Village, Texas.  37 year old Lander Smith was arrested and charged with failure to stop and render aid, which is a felony in the state of Texas.

A record 249 Texas counties have outdoor burn bans as the heat wave and drought continues. The Texas Forest Service says only five counties in South and Southeast Texas are without burn bans. Prior to this year the previous record was set back in 2006, when 221 counties had such bans in place.

Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe is releasing $100,000 from the disaster fund to aid the state response to wildfires. The money will be used for the Arkansas National Guard  response to fires around the state. The guard has been the primary source of air support for the firefighting efforts.
