The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality will hold a hearing this Monday Evening in Hope to accept public comments for a draft water permit for the John W. Turk Jr. Power Plant.

Swepco has applied for a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit for the proposed discharge of the water used for the cooling process combined with other low volume waste streams. The proposed discharge is into the Little River which is a tributary to the Red River. The public meetin and hearing will begin at 6 pm at the Rapert Library Auditorium at the University of Arkansas Community College located at 2500 South Main in Hope.

The Texarkana, Texas Police Department says one person is dead and another jailed following a disagreement that led to a stabbing incident. Officers were called to the 600 block of Waterman Street over the weekend and found the victim, 54 year old Beverly Joyce Chatman, with multiple stab wounds to her chest. She was transported to Wadley Regional Medical Center and later died.

Officers were able to locate the suspect 43 year old Eric Martin who was arrested and charged with murder. No Bail has been set.

Oil Prices continue to fall. Prices were hovering around $90 a barrel today in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Oil has come down almost $25 a barrel from a high of $115 a barrel back in early May.
