J.W.’s News Update:Tuesday June 28, 2011

Good Tuesday, Here are some stories making headlines today:

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of the area until 7pm tonight. Thunderstorms are possible particularly across the northern and eastern  portions of the Four States Area.

The Texarkana Texas Independent School District Board of Trustees meets tonight at 6pm at the district services building in the 1600 block of Waterall Street. The board is expected to approve the contract for the new superintendent Paul Norton. Norton recently was named superintendent to replace James Henry Russell who left to become President of Texarkana College.

The board is also expected to formally name Brad Bailey as the new principal at Texas High School.

The Texas Legistlature is taking up the final items in the special session. Both the House and the Senate are conducting final votes on bills that maintain school funding and revamp a hurricane insurance program. Governor Rick Perry can call another seassion if lawmakers do not complete all the work on time.
