Mel Gibson May Play Jewish Hero in Next Film
Talk about going against type.
Rumors are swilling that Mel Gibson may cast himself as Judah Maccabee in an upcoming epic based on the life of the Jewish military hero who led a revolt against the armies of Greek and Syria between 167–160 BC.
Gibson’s production company is producing the unnamed project, alongside Warner Bros. Gibson, who has previously said he considers a Maccabee movie to be a follow up to his controversial smash hit ‘The Passion of the Christ,’ may also direct the movie.
In 2006, Gibson made well-publicized anti-Semitic remarks while in police custody for drunk driving.
