‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Star Tom Holland Confirms Marvel’s Trilogy Plan
Marvel and Sony have already set a 2019 release date for the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, which hits theaters in just a few weeks. But as you probably suspected, that momentous collaboration won’t end with two films, as Tom Holland himself has confirmed Marvel’s — totally not shocking at all — plans for a complete Spidey trilogy. It may be the least surprising news you read all day, but it’s still comforting to know that Spider-Man is back in good hands (for at least three films and a few MCU appearances, anyway).
Last fall, Holland revealed that his Spider-Man contract with Marvel included three films in the MCU proper as well as three solo films over at Sony — though that didn’t necessarily mean that a full trilogy was in the cards just yet, and with former Sony exec Amy Pascal casting some doubt on Spidey’s MCU future post-Homecoming back in March, nothing seemed entirely certain.
Yes, there is what we call the arc of the character. There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man, especially, to grow in the next two movies. He’s definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and… go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies.
It’s kind of cute how Holland seems to think he’s spilled some beans here by revealing the obvious when asked to clarify:
There will be a Spider-Man 2 and 3… Yeah, well now you know, sorry Marvel. Whoops!
