Texarkana City Council Votes on Incentives for New Grocery Store
Right before Christmas, we found out that the City of Texarkana Texas was considering giving some incentives for a new grocery store to come to town.
Texarkana Texas City Council's First Meeting of 2022
The Texarkana, Texas City Council held the public hearing last night Monday, January 10 in its first meeting of the new year.
Time For Questions From The Public And Vote
Towards the end of the meeting, Mayor Bob Bruggeman stated there was one more public hearing item :
Authorizing the city manager to enter into a Chapter 380 Economic Development Agreement with WinCo Foods.
One Texarkana citizen was there to question the resolution. Mayor Bob Bruggeman explained to the man the reasoning behind the $350,000 worth of incentives to bring this store to our area. And the council voted in favor of the resolution! Now I guess we wait to see when the ball starts rolling and WinCo says, Here We Come!
As we reported earlier this grocery store would bring almost 100 new jobs to our area. Winco is an employee-owned store.
Where Is The Proposed Location of the Store?
The location of the store would be close to Central Mall in the area of the old Sears store, hat store would be demolished and a new unattached building would be built.
What Do We Know About This Store?
When I first heard about this store I thought the same thing that many others in the Texarkana area thought. What is 'Winco'? There are several WinCo Grocery Stores in the Dallas area. After talking with friends in Dallas, I am happy to say, my friends love the store! You can find out more about WinCo here.
Other City Council Business?
They also conducted other business like liking to a request for the rezoning of a private residence on Kings Highway to an office. They also made the announcement the Chamber of Commerce Banquet that was to be held on Friday, January 21 will be postponed until sometime in the Spring due to the rise in Omnicron cases in our area. And they also hear the request for a New Town Neighborhood Association to be recognized as an official neighborhood association by the city.
