The demolition of the old Kress Building in Downtown Texarkana is set to begin and it will alter both pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

According to a release from the City of Texarkana, Texas, crews will partially close the 100 Block of West Broad Street as of today, Monday, May 15, to ensure public safety during the Kress demolition project.  The 100 block of West Broad Street in front of the Bi-State Justice Center will be restricted to one-way traffic with the west bound lanes closed to through traffic for the duration of the project.

East bound lanes will remain open at this time. The north side of West Broad Street and the sidewalk will be closed to all traffic and pedestrians from Main Street running east to mid-block.
 
Anyone needing to access the businesses in the 100 block of W. Broad will be able to enter and exit via Pine Street. Delivery trucks are asked not to enter this area until the road is re-opened. The north alley of this block will also be partially closed. Citizens are encouraged to reduce your speeds on adjacent streets and be aware of larger equipment and vehicles working in the area. 
 
The contract for demolition of the Kress Building specifies work will be complete within 140 days.
