So far this awards season we've seen all-black ensembles, Time's Up pins, and white roses all adorn the red carpet, but at the 2018 Oscars, orange flag pins were the accessory de rigueur. So what's the meaning behind them?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pins were distributed by Michael Bloomberg's gun control advocacy group, Everytown for Gun Safety, as a means to support stricter gun control laws. While previous awards shows put the spotlight on movements like #MeToo and Time's Up, both formed to combat sexual misconduct and gender impropriety in Hollywood, Everytown highlights #NeverAgain, a campaign launched after the horrific shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida that left 17 people dead.

In the wake of the shooting, celebrities like Amy Schumer, Harry Styles, Reese Witherspoon, and Zendaya have re-upped pleas for tighter gun control. Many have also signed the petition for the March For Our Lives gun control rally, which is set for March 24 in Washington, D.C. and is expected to draw more than 500,000 protestors. A-listers like George and Amal Clooney and Oprah, meanwhile, have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the upcoming demonstration.
