Can You Believe Arkansas Is Top Ten In This Awesome Statistic?
I get to share some good news with you. Arkansas is one of the top 10 states in this important category.
I found a video that talks about the top 10 states that have the cheapest houses and after watching I can tell you that we live in an area that definitely has some affordable housing.
Here are the top ten states with the cheapest houses and yes we are on the list.
10. Missouri
Missouri is the home of Anheuser Busch. This state has great jobs and the median home price is $194,000.
9. Indiana
With a decent job market and good jobs in healthcare and manufacturing, Indiana is number 9 on the list. The average house is $186,000.
8. Ohio
As long as you stay out of the major cities Ohio has a lot to offer with a strong job market in finance. Ohio just may be your new spot. The average home cost in Ohio is $182,000.
7. Kansas
What can you say about Kansas? It is all about farming. Kansas is the number one producer of wheat in the United States. The average home price in Kansas is $176,000.
6. Alabama
'Roll Tide', right? Seriously Alabama is sixth on this list with a pretty good job market and of course, the southern part of the state is home to some of the most breathtaking beaches. Alabama may be calling your name. The average price of a home in Alabama is $170,000.
5. Iowa
Just like Kansas, there is a lot of farming going on in Iowa. Did you know there are actually more hogs than people in Iowa? In 2013 there were over 21 million hogs to just 3 million people in Iowa. The average home price in Iowa is $166,000.
4. Oklahoma
Oklahoma holds a special place for me. My father was from southeast Oklahoma and I spent a lot of time there as a kid. Oil and of course farming are big there. My sister and her husband live in Tulsa. The median home price in Oklahoma is $150,000.
3. Arkansas
The state I call home is listed as the third best place in the United States when it comes to affordable housing. Did you know that the tourist industry in Arkansas pulled in over 5 billion dollars last year? The video specifically lists Texarkana as one of the best places to look for affordable housing in the state. The average price of a home in Arkansas is $149,000.
2. Mississippi
Mississippi is coming in at number 2. The job market is just ok, most of those jobs are in agriculture. I have only traveled to the state a few times and it is beautiful but is not the friendliest of places to visit. The average home in Mississippi is only $141,000.
1. West Virginia
West Virginia is in at number one. The reason? The cost of living is cheap, really cheap, but the job market is pretty bad. The average home price in Virginia is $118,000.
So there you have it not only is housing in our area cheap, but the Youtuber actually mentions Texarkana as one of those best places to buy a home in the entire state of Arkansas.
Check out his video right here. He mentions Texarkana at the 9:19 mark.
