Beyonce's documentary Homecoming was praised for its celebration of black culture and the Coachella performance in which it showcases was downright historic. Unsurprisingly, the film was nominated for six Emmys (outstanding variety special (pre-recorded), outstanding costumes for variety, non-fiction or reality programming; outstanding directing for a variety special; outstanding music direction; outstanding production design for a variety special and outstanding writing for a variety special) and the queen herself was personally nominated in all categories but outstanding costumes and production design. What was surprising, however, was the fact that the documentary went home empty handed at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony Saturday night (September 14).

What's even more discouraging is what Homecoming lost to: Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney Live From Liverpool for best variety special (pre-recorded); RuPaul's Drag Race for best costumes for variety, nonfiction or reality programming; Springsteen on Broadway for best directing for a variety special; Fosse/Verdon for best music direction; Rent for outstanding production design for a variety special; and Hannah Gadsby: Nanette for best writing for a variety special. While we can understand RuPaul winning best costumes, Homecoming lost to Carpool Karaoke. Really?! Naturally, the Beyhive was not pleased and believe the color of Beyonce's skin has something to do with her snub.

"It's deeper than Beyoncé winning/losing at the #Emmys it's just broadcast no matter how much blood, sweat, & tears Black Woman put into their craft..they still will be snubbed to their white counterparts!" one fan tweeted. "@Beyonce I love you for always bringing our Culture to the forefront!"
