Brad Smiley Named New Head Coach of Mulerider Football
Southern Arkansas University announced late last week there is going to be a new coach in town. Brad Smiley has been named the 21st head coach to the SAU Mulerider Football program and it was put into effect immediately.
According to the press release, Smiley is bringing 27 years of highly successful collegiate offensive coaching experience at the NCAA Division I, NCAA FCS and NJCAA levels.
Steve Browning, Director of Athletics said in a press release;
“After an extensive national search, it became evident that Coach Smiley was the right man to lead our football program. His experience and success at multiple levels along with his vast knowledge of recruiting in our region stood out during this process. We can’t wait to see where Coach Smiley takes this program!”
Smiley's Coaching History
Smiley most recently served as offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at FCS Northwestern State in the Southland Conference since 2018. He also coached tight ends and assisted with special teams at NSU in 1996 and 1997.
What Sold Him on the SAU Position?
Smiley said,
“The campus and town were beautiful and the facilities were very impressive, but it was the people that sold us.”
Smiley is married and has two children.
