Peter Capaldi’s ‘Doctor Who’ Replacement Already Cast, Says Boss
Doctor Who made it most of the way through Peter Capaldi’s final season without any major casting leaks, but the dam may soon burst. According to one former Who showrunner, the Thirteenth Doctor has officially been cast.
Prior showrunner Russell T. Davies suggested as much in conversation with GuysLikeU at the LGBT awards, stating flatly “I do know who it is.” Davies naturally dodged any tips toward race or gender, noting that he gets in trouble for even talking about the casting (see 4:07):
The most vocal rumors have pointed toward Death in Paradise star Kris Marshall, though speculation on the female side has run the gamut from Phoebe Waller-Bridge to Olivia Colman. Either way, Capaldi’s exit will also coincide with Steven Moffat’s last season, placing Chris Chibnall as the new head writer and executive producer after Season 10.
We’ll see if Doctor Who drops any hints of the newest star before this winter’s Christmas special, but will the series finally shake things up? Watch the latest trailer below in the meantime.
