Don’t be a Victim – Register Now for Women’s Self-Defense Class in October
It's a sad reality but recent news stories about women out taking a jog and then being abducted and killed remind us all that as women we need to learn several ways to protect ourselves.
The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana will have a women’s self-defense training class on Wednesday, October, 5 and Thursday, October 6 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Hempstead Hall on the Hope campus. The course will be instructed by Matt Hughes who has a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu. Training will be under Wayne Knudsen, who has worked for organizations such as the UFC.
You will learn how to protect your space, disengage from an attacker and how to get to safety quickly. You will also learn of ways to incapacitate attackers if escaping isn't possible.
Matt Hughes stated in a press release;
“We teach techniques that do not rely on strength and athleticism, as most attackers will be bigger, stronger, and more aggressive. Along with this comes the teaching of situational awareness and self-worth. A person must feel that they are capable of protecting themselves and worthy of protection. I hope to promote both ideas. Also, I teach these things because the most important people in my life are women, and I want the world to be a safer, better place for them.”
The class only cost $25 per session or $45 for both sessions. The deadline to register for the course is Monday, October 3.
