The family of Eazy-E celebrated the late rapper's birthday on Saturday (Sept. 7), and for the occasion they upgraded the rap legend's tombstone.

Family and friends of the N.W.A founder gathered at Rose Hills Cemetery for the replacement ceremony. The rapper's initial headstone was a modest black slate. The new marker is much bigger and much more detailed. At the top, it features the line "The Godfather of Gangsta Rap" along with Eazy's signature. Several photos of the rapper a featured throughout along with the line, "He Put Compton on the Map."

In one of the only similarities between the old marker and the new mark the phrase "We Loved Him, But God Loved Him More" remains.

The new headstone has a different date than the original. The older one marks the rapper born in 1963 and the new one notes 1964, which may be one of the reasons for the upgrade. There are numerous conflicting reports online as to what year the rapper was actually born.

Eazy died on March 26, 1995. The official cause of his death was listed as complications from HIV/AIDS. However, some of his family disputes those claims.

In 2016, Eazy's daughter Ebie Wright started a kickstarter in order to raise money for a documentary on his death titled A Ruthless Scandal: No More Lies.
