In honor of Black History Month in February, Historic Arkansas Museum will again host Before Freedom, an educational program that recognizes the enslaved individuals who lived in the neighborhood where the museum stands today.

The program will be hosted on the museum’s Historic Grounds at 200 E. 3rd St., Little Rock on Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 21, from 10 AM until noon for grades 4th through 12th.

Cost: $1 per student, and free for one teacher and one adult per classroom. $2.50 for additional adults. Inquire about the Bill Worthen Future of History Fund for covering the cost of student admission.

Length: 1 hour for groups up to 60 students; 2 hours for up to 120 students.

HAM’s Historic Grounds was once home to many people. On this tour, hear the stories of three people who were enslaved on the three blocks of the property where the museum stands. Each living history character will present for ten minutes and then will break the character to answer questions.

Historic Arkansas Museum is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 1 - 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the galleries and parking are free; tours of historic grounds are $2.50 for adults, $1 for children under 18, $1.50 for senior citizens.
