A&M-Texarkana Students Now Have Access to Mental Health Support App
Texas A&M Univesity Texarkana is proud to announce that all of its students now have access to TELUS Health Student Support. This is a free, confidential mental health care app.
Let's face it, life can be hard and we all can get overwhelmed and even depressed at times but sometimes we all need a little help. Over the years, we have recognized as a society that mental health is a real thing and can get very serious very quickly. This new mental health app will give the students access to help via phone or chat and it is available for them 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
The students will also be able to make counseling appointments even for short-term support. this free program is funded by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents. The app is now available to over 153,000 students who attend Texas A&M Universities.
Dr. James Hallmark, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs for the 11 universities in the A&M System said in a press release,
Studies show that about 75 percent of students who are struggling with depression or anxiety are reluctant to get help. We hope this app makes it easier for students to take the first step.
The wonderful thing about the TELUS app is that it is that students can get in contact with a professional council anytime anywhere.
The app also offers these services in different languages like Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Other languages may be available by request. If a student likes a counselor they can schedule a limited number of repeat sessions with that same counselor.
The app also can give an anonymous assessment on things like depression, anxiety, and drug use. Plus access to meditations and fitness sessions.
Briana Taylor, A&M-Texarkana’s Director of Counseling & Wellness Services said,
In addition to providing linkage to licensed clinicians, TELUS has an extensive library of resources for self-help that touches on a variety of topics, such as anxiety and depression. It is a wonderful resource for those seeking short-term support and it is completely free to our students.
