
Free Tree Seedling Giveaway in New Boston on Valentine’s Day
Now that January is coming to an end, we can begin to look ahead to February. The Bowie County Master Gardeners have teamed up with the Texas A&M Forest Service for a FREE tree seedling giveaway on Valentine's Day.
Valentine Day Tree Seedling Giveaway: Wood You Be Mine?
The FREE tree seedling giveaway begins at 9 AM on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Trailhead Park Pavilion, 200 South Ellis Street in New Boston, Texas. This seedling giveaway will be on a first-come, first-served basis until all trees have been distributed.
Texas A&M Forest Service and the Bowie County Master Gardeners are expected to distribute 500 total seedlings to the local community.

Varieties of Tree Seedlings Giveaway in New Boston, Texas
Bald Cypress - Adapts to a wide range of soil types, whether wet, salty, dry, or swampy, and the bald cypress is hardy and tough. They can grow up to 70' tall.
Cherrybark Oak - One of the most highly valued red oaks in the southern United States. It is sturdy and strong, grows in more moist sites, and is a superb timber tree, better than a southern red oak. It can grow between 100 and 130 feet.
Nuttal Oak - Nuttall Oak tends to be 40-60 feet tall with a spread of 35-50 feet, and tends to grow rather large and fast with leaves similar to those of the Georgia oak and pin oak.
Pecan - The pecan is native to the south-central U.S. The tree is cultivated for its seed primarily in the U.S. states of Georgia, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, and Mexico. It normally takes between 8 and 10 years to produce pecans and grow up to 100 feet tall.
Shumard Oak - The Shumard is one of the largest of the oak species in the red oak class. This tree needs lots of space to grow, as its branches tend to grow very wide. Don't plant this tree near power lines or near water pipes in the ground. Acorn fruits are present every two years from early August through late October.
This is a drive-thru event; all participants must remain in their vehicles during the giveaway. Trees are provided for up to 2 adults per vehicle, and up to 8 tree seedlings of assorted varieties will be labeled and distributed.
