While scrolling on twitter, I had a whole "WTH moment" when I stumbled up on a tweet from GOP candidate for Michigan governor stating that he would abolish Black History Month.

The 2022 candidate's name is Austin Chenge. He's an army veteran who identifies as a conservative Republican from Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Now are you ready for this??? He's also a black man. And one of the first things he said he would do as governor is cancel Black History Month In the State of Michigan.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">I will cancel <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/BlackHistoryMonth?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#BlackHistoryMonth</a> in <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Michigan?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Michigan</a>. It&#39;s offensive, unfair, maybe illegal... Americans from all backgrounds deserve a revered history. I&#39;ll declare American History Month. Austin Chenge, <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Veteran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Veteran</a> &amp; First <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Republican?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Republican</a> Gov <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Candidate?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Candidate</a> for MI. If you're like me, you sat reading in disbelief that this black man.... who's actually a Nigerian immigrant, completely denounces Black History Month, considers himself an 'American first and foremost." And although he would be the first Black governor if elected in 2022, he's not very receptive of that title.

“I don’t actually see myself as a minority, or a Black American, or a Black anything or a minority anything,” he said. “I just see myself as an American. When we start focusing on a person’s gender or race or anything that causes division, we lose our unity as Americans … If I become the governor of Michigan, I’m not going to be the first Black governor of Michigan. I’m going to be just another American governor.”

So, basically you're ok with losing uniqueness for unity??? Why does one have to be compromised in the land of the free?? Why do you have to disregard uniqueness in order to achieve unity in a country like America? For me, when I read his commentary, it reminded me of people who say, 'I don't see color'. First of all, unless you're blind, I'm gonna call BS. But ultimately, if you don't see color, you should. You can't have different cultures without having different colors of skin represented... And truth be told... this would be a boring ass country if we all looked the same, acted the same, had the same culture.

I honestly feel sorry for dude. He has no clue of the struggle of the African American people.
