R. Kelly’s Confidantes Quit Following Sexual Misconduct Allegations
R. Kelly has lost his assistant, publicist and lawyer following several recent sexual misconduct allegations levied against the singer.
Kelly’s representative Trevian Kutti confirmed with Rolling Stone that she is no longer with the R&B singer. In addition, Kelly’s entertainment attorney, Linda Mensch, and his assistant, Diana Copeland, have also resigned from the singer’s team, according to BBC3.
The news comes after The Washington Post reported that a Texas woman filed a complaint claiming that Kelly infected her with a sexually transmitted disease and supplied her with drugs and alcohol. The unidentified woman, through her attorney Lee Merritt, is preparing to file a federal civil complaint against the veteran singer.
The victim alleges that she met Kelly last June when she was 19, and claims that he infected her with the STD in Dallas, Texas, in December. The complaint also charges that Kelly was grooming the woman to join his alleged “sex cult.”
Merritt said that his client ended her relationship with Kelly in February. Merritt added that during the relationship, “our client was the victim of several forms of criminal misconduct by Kelly, including, but not limited to, unlawful restraint, furnishing alcohol and illegal drugs to a minor, and aggravated assault (via the referenced intentional STD infection).”
In addition, BBC aired a new documentary titled R. Kelly: Sex, Girls, and Videotapes, which unveiled a slew of new sexual misconduct accusations of Kelly allegedly creating a sex cult with the women in his life.
R. Kelly has since categorically denied all claims and allegations against him.
