I still remember watching the police pull Rae Carruth out of the trunk of his car that day in North Carolina as he hid from police knowing he was a wanted man for the murder of Cherica Adams, the woman who was 8 months pregnant with his child. I will admit I was a bit taken aback when I woke up this morning to find out that he was released today prison after almost 19 years. However, I was even more bothered by the fact that he is seeking custody of his 18-year-old son who was in the womb and survived the brutal murder of his mother.

Carruth wrote a 15-page letter of three thousand words to Saundra Adams, the mother of Cherica Adams, that was sent to Charlotte television station WBTV. He also spoke at length by phone with the station about the letter, accepting responsibility for the 1999 conspiracy to murder Cherica Adams and expressing interest in gaining custody of their son he almost killed while killing the child's mother in a shooting that he planned. the child, Chancellor Adams, was born prematurely cerebral palsy.

For those of you who may not be familiar with the story, in 1999, Carruth paid a hit man to kill the mother of his child. Not only did he pay the hit man, he also participated in making sure the plan went through without flaw. Adams was shot 4 times while 8 months pregnant with their son. Fortunately, the baby lived. However, he went without oxygen for too long and was born with Cerebral Palsy. See the video below to see how Carruth conspired and successfully had the mother of his son killed.  Footage includes 911 call from Cherica Adams.

I am a firm believer in forgiveness. Today, tested that belief for me as I followed this case closely from beginning to now. I hope the best for Carruth and any chance he may have to make up for what he had done to his son and his caregiver, his grandmother... Cherica's mother.
