Texarkana Don’t Worry If You Hear a Loud Boom!
Get ready Texarkana because the booms are coming back?
Day and Zimmerman formerly the old Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant, located just west of Texarkana will begin detonating old military items over the next several months, according to contractors with the plant. If you happen to hear a loud boom or explosion or feel your windows rattle it's all due to the detonation.
According to officials at Day and Zimmerman, there will be multiple detonations a day, but they will always be between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Most people are used to it by now if you live in this area but if you're new to the area it may catch you by surprise. Nothing to worry about though.
The Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant was a 15,546-acre government-owned, contractor-operated facility 12 miles west of Texarkana, Texas that was established in 1942. The land was purchased from local citizens through Eminent Domain by the United States Department of Defense. The Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant was officially deactivated on September 30, 2009, after serving its mission of providing ammunition for almost 70 years. Future plans include directing the I-69 Corridor through the facility once the property has been transferred from the local community.
