Practical App:

The Weather Channel - Since the weather app that comes with the Evo phone is very limited in details but heavy with pretty animated graphics, I figured out real quick that I would need an app that gave me much more. I found it in the Weather Channel app. The funny thing is, apparently they recently (withing the last few days) updated their program. Sometimes that turns out to be a bad thing, and this was one of those days. After messing around with it for a while, re-installing, figureing out new settings and basically re-booting my phone, everything seems to be working just fine now.

The new format will take a little getting used to, but it all appears to working. It also has weather alerts so you know when the tornado is coming... living around here, I like that.

FxCamera - This is a pretty fun app, as you can see by the examples on the right, you can take some pretty weird photos. All of these effects can be done in photo manipulating software on your PC or Mac, but this app let's you do it right when you take the photo, then you can upload it straight to Facebook, email it, whatever. Best yet, it won't cost you a dime.

HTC Evo Technical Tip:

If you have kids, then you need to purchase an extended life battery for your Evo. The battery it comes with is 1500 mAh, which if all you do is make a call every now and then and send out a few texts each day, that may be all you need.  But if you like to "use" your phone, GPS, camera, surf the web, play a game, etc... you should be looking at battery's with a 3500 mAH rating. that will more than double the amount of time you can spend goofing off with your new toy. I mean, using your phone for business. I recently bought one form a store listed on Amazon, working beautifully. The battery is lasting all day even when my nine year old grabs it after school and plays games on it for a while. The only thing is your slim little phone is going to get fatter, the 3500 mAh batteries are twice as thick, make sure you order one that comes with the replacement back for your Evo, your old back won't fit on it with the new battery installed.
