Large breed dog lovers this is the dog for you. Bot is 1 year old and loves to be loved. He is a large dog that still thinks he can sit in your lap. Bot is a Boxer mixed with Great Dane. He is neutered, has a microchip, house trained, walks good on a leash, sits and shakes hands. You can adopt him for just $40. Here is Bot's story.

When Bot was a baby he went to live with a family in Texarkana. The young child in the family is autistic and Bot was just to big to manage. He kept knocking the child down so they gave him to another family but they too had a small child and it didn't work out. Somewhere along the way Bot strayed away from his home and was picked up on Sanderson Lane by animal control on February 2 on the Arkansas side of town which means he only has a three day hold. The three day hold is the time allotted for the owners to reclaim him and after that, he becomes the property of the animal shelter. The shelter can either put him up for adoption or euthanize him. Since he is already neutered and has a great temperament, he has a good chance of getting on the adoption floor when there is room. He can be adopted from the holding pen but since that is not a public area, anyone interested in him will need to ask the staff to see him. He was in Kennel S1 on Feb. 6. His Air Sheet number is 224588.

Bot is house trained, crate trained, knows commands too. He is good with other dogs that like to play rough. Bot needs an owner that will be the leader, otherwise Bot tries to lead and it doesn't work out so great. In Bot's original home his back yard had a five foot fence that he never tried to climb. He doesn't mind staying in a crate during the day while his owners work either. He loves to be a part of the family.

Important number you need to know is his Air Sheet No. 224588.

The shelter's normal adoption fees range from $20 to $201, depending on the gender and size of the animal or whether they have been spayed or neutered yet. Since Bot is already neutered and microchipped, his adoption fee is just $40.

You can take your pets to be microchipped at the animal shelter for only $20. That way, if your pet is ever lost, it can be returned to you quickly.

The animal shelter has three basic areas for dogs: The intake area where the kennels for the dogs are listed as "HP" which stands for Hold Pending. When dogs first arrive at the shelter, this is where they go first. The next area is the lower building that is attached to the adoption floor by a long hallway. The lower building is usually called the Stray building and the kennels are listed with a "S" in front of the numbered cage. In that building there are 15 stray kennels, with another five kennels set aside behind a gate often used for bite cases. Those kennels are marked as "OB." This area is often used for overflow when there aren't any bite cases. The area that most people see is the Adoption Floor. The kennels on the adoption floor are marked with a "D" in front of the cage number. That stands for Dog.

The Animal Care and Adoption Center is located at 203 Harrison St., Texarkana, Ark., 71854 and is open Monday through Friday from 11AM and 5PM and Saturdays from 11AM to 2PM. Our shelter takes in animals from many surrounding communities. Please remember to check with the shelter if you have lost a pet or if you are interested in adopting a new pet.
