The State of Texas has $9 BILLION in unclaimed property. That was the number given by the State Comptroller's office in September 2024.

In fiscal 2024, Texas returned over $422 million to rightful owners, representing more than 250,000 claims that were paid. Apply some basic math, and that means there is still around $8.5 BILLION just waiting to be claimed.

In many cases, people who have unclaimed property don't even know it.

The Texas Government has made this a rather easy process. Simply log into the 'Claim It Texas' website. Then, just click on the 'Get Started' tab.

I randomly chose a letter for the 'last or business name' and included Lufkin for the city. Here is the first page of search results. Yes, someone in Lufkin has over $51,000 in unclaimed property.

That $51,000 entry above is from 2010. No need to worry about it being from 15 years ago, because according to the Texas Comptroller's website, "There is no statute of limitations for unclaimed property. Funds reported will remain here indefinitely until returned to their rightful owner."

Personal Testimony

My family has benefited from this website, too. We didn't realize that we had overpaid a medical bill by $700.

Several days ago, I was typing in some names and I found out that a close friend has over $14,000 in unclaimed property. She is now in the process of claiming that money.

So, head to the Claim It Texas website and type in your name. You've got nothing to lose, and possibly a lot to gain.
