John Schmidt

Step outside the pop-box for a minute let the music play that speaks to you even though it has no words. Honestly I don't even know how to categorize Jon Schmidt, classical isn't quite it, easy listening? No way! Jazz? Nope. Pop-infused-contemporary-classical-piano-and-stuff? That's not it either but it's closer. Whatever we're supposed to call it, it's good, real good.

In the video below, Schmidt teams with cellist Steven Sharp Nelson and the two men using only the instruments you see in the video and their own vocal chords created every sound you here in "Michael Meets Mozart".

My dad got me interested in classical music at a very young age by taking me to outdoor symphonies in Fort Worth and playing records of the London Symphony Orchestra and others. My musical base took a very wide stance from early on and I thank him and all the musical influences in my life for where my ears of musical appreciation are today. Thank God there are still ultra-talented people around like Jon Schmidt who can write and perform music that stirs the soul instead of just... shakin' the booty.
