July USPSA Match is This Saturday: Weaver Un-Muzzled

Happy Independence Week! It's a little odd having July 4th in the middle of the week, I would rather it be on a Friday or Monday so we get a long weekend out of it but, oh well, a day off to load ammo is a day off to load ammo.

This Saturday it's time for another hot July IPSC/USPSA match at the Texarkana Gun Club.

As the summer heats up, please remember to bring the essentials on match day; other than your gun and shooting supplies don't forget things like sun screen and lots of water. Please wear something to cover your head, especially if nature has removed some of your "natural" covering.

We open the gates around 8:30 a.m., the match begins at 10:00 a.m. and runs usually three to four hours with five stages of "run and gun" fun. If you're planning on joining us to shoot in the match you should be there by 9:30 a.m. at the latest to register and have time to get your gear ready and maybe walk the stages.

Shooters with smart phones figured it was just matter of time before someone came out with a good shot timer application for your smart phone or tablet. It would appear there are several now as I just downloaded one today that has real promise and some pretty good online reviews, it's called the 'IPSC Shot Timer.' The timer is still in BETA testing mode, but seems to be working pretty well, at least on my HTC Evo 4G. I have not tried it at the range yet so this is still a work in progress for me but it has passed the 'clap test' with flying colors. Now everyone at work thinks I'm applauding myself...

Try it out with your Android device and tell us how it works, or doesn't work. We want to know.

Unfortunately I have zero time this week to go the range for practice so it's all draw, mag change and dry fire at home for me, plus I have to crank out 250 hand-loaded rounds for match day.
