This year, The Scholars are taking it to the streets for Juneteenth weekend, and they're inviting you to come join in on all the fun!

The Scholars would love for you to join them tomorrow noon to 7 p.m. for their "Keeping History Alive Juneteenth Celebration" on Front Street in Downtown Texarkana.

With Congress declaring Juneteenth a national holiday, I can't think of a better way to celebrate than to do it BIG! The scholars are doing just that.

This fun-filled day will include:

  • A 3-on-3 basketball tournament
  • Spades and domino tournament
  • Parade of the Professionals (organized by 12-year-old Ayden Howard)
  • Political Speakers
  • Civil Rights Activist
  • Food and craft vendors
  • Live bands and local artists performances
  • Video Game Truck
  • Bounce Houses

According to the Scholars Facebook page, there will be a sweet potato pie contest as well. I just wanna know if I can be a judge. :) Below are the contestant rules.

Also the scholars will showcase their entrepreneurial skills by selling their very own products. Let's go out and support these young people.

This event is FREE and open to the public. Come join the fun and celebrate African American Independence Day!
