The City of Texarkana, Texas will begin work on the downtown parking and two-way street conversion Monday, June 25.

The City contracted with Total Highway Maintenance to complete this portion of the downtown street improvement project which will require approximately four to five months to finish, depending on weather conditions.

Work will be focused mainly on W. 3rd and W. 4th Streets from State Line Avenue to the Texas Viaduct, and on cross streets of Pine, Main, Texas, Spruce, Oak, and Elm between W. 3rd and W. 6th Streets. This project will create an additional 178  parking spaces downtown, convert W. 3rd and W. 4th Streets to be two-way streets, add crosswalks and update existing crosswalks, and add bike sharros.  Additional work will include adding and updating lighting in the downtown area.

This project was recommended as a short-term goal in the City of Texarkana Texas’ updated Comprehensive Plan adopted by City Council March 26, 2018.
