The Ozan-Inghram and Iron Mountain Neighborhood Development Corporation, in addition to, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend Celebration Committee, will host the  26th Prayer Breakfast and 16th Annual MLK Jr. Acts of Kindness Gala  January 13th - 15th. Community organizers of the MLK weekend events are united each year by a very common thread.... a strong desire to celebrate peace and meet the needs of humanity just as Dr. King did over 60 years ago. The event was created to bring diverse groups of residents together to reflect, discuss and plan ways to advance Dr. King's vision for humanity. Over the MLK Weekend, individuals unite to recognize and honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and as a result, many rededicate themselves to the principles of Freedom and Justice.

According to the news release, the MLK Weekend Committee coordinates a series of activities and speakers across from across Texarkana. The 2018 program of events will include a black tie gala, youth community activities and various religious activities with a special emphasis on nonviolence.
