The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Veterans Services office and Student Veterans Association will celebrate “More than Just a Day” during the week of November 7-11 in honor of the nation’s veterans and active-duty military.

On Monday, November 7, at 4PM, the Student Veterans Association will hold a screening of “Major Payne,” a 1995 American military comedy film directed by Nick Castle and written by and starring Damon Wayans in the Eagle Lounge of the University Center.

Students, faculty, staff and community members will have an opportunity to find out more about military organizations at the “Get to Know the Military” session on Tuesday, November 8 at 11AM. in the Eagle Lounge on the first floor of the University Center.

On Wednesday, November 9 from 10AM to 2PM there will be a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter fly-in on campus on the University Center lawn. The event will enable nursing and health professions students and others to view and learn more about medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) helicopters.

Also on Wednesday, beginning at 10AM, students, faculty, staff and campus visitors will have an opportunity to test their abilities on a military obstacle course on the University Center lawn.

On Thursday, November 10, there will be a Military Appreciation barbecue at 11AM on the first floor of the University Center.

“Red Shirt Friday” will be celebrated on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11. Students, faculty, staff and members of the community are encouraged to wear red in in honor of those men and women who are currently deployed.

At 10AM on November 11, a Veterans Day/Flag Ceremony also will be held.

Throughout the week in the University Center lobby, individuals may purchase flags in memory or in honor of service members for a $1 donation to the Student Veterans Association. The flags will be planted on Friday prior to the ceremony.

The community is invited to participate in all “More than Just a Day” veterans week activities at A&M-Texarkana.
