What Was the Hottest Day Ever Recorded in Arkansas?
It's no secret that this has been a hot summer in Arkansas, what started out as pretty much a mild wet summer has turned into a blistering heatwave for many Americans across the country.
While many states are experiencing record-breaking temperatures Arkansas hasn't broken its hottest day on record since August 10, 1936, 87 years ago when the town of Ozark was a sweltering 120 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
It's already looking like if these hot days continue we just might break that record because typically August in Arkansas is the hottest of the year.
In fact, in 1936 that date and year was like a sizzling BBQ for most Arkansans living in the state. Texarkana was even affected by the extremely hot temperatures and dry conditions as well as other cities in Arkansas that year and this doesn't even account for the heat index which I'm sure they didn't even account for back then.
Arkansas Heat Wave
Texarkana - 117 degrees
Arkadelphia - 115 degrees
Hot Springs - 115 degrees
Mena - 112 degrees
Pine Bluff -108 degrees
Little Rock - 110 degrees - Little Rock broke that record in 2011 when the temperature hit a staggering 114 degrees
Jonesboro - 110 degrees
Mountain Home - 110 degrees
Harrison - 111 degrees
Fayetteville - 109 degrees
Currently, a Severe Excessive Heat Warning continues for much of Arkansas as well as the Texarkana area.
Citizens are asked to stay hydrated, stay out of the sun, stay indoors, and check on relatives, pets, and the elderly. Do not leave pets or children unattended in a vehicle under any circumstances. There are plenty of ways to stay cool during these long hot summer days here are a few helpful tips.
