The sports world received some sad news on Saturday night (Aug. 17), as former NFL running back Cedric Benson died from injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. He was only 36 years old. Lil Wayne, who is an avid fan of the team in which Benson played his last season, the Green Bay Packers, was touched by the loss and paid homage to the late athlete on social media.

Tune reacted to the news of Benson's tragic passing on Sunday (Aug. 18) on Twitter.

"🙏🏽🙏🏽 For #32 Cedrick Benson and his fam," the Young Money rapper posted. "My condolences. Packer 4ever. Love everyday."

Benson played college football at the University of Texas before being a first-round pick of the Chicago Bears in 2005. He spent eight years in the league and also played for the Cincinnati Bengals before retiring a Packer in 2012.

He died on Saturday night as the result of motorcycle accident in Austin, Texas. Benson and a passenger reportedly collided with a minivan. Both succumbed to their injuries. Two passengers in the van suffered minor injuries. The impact of the accident ignited a fire.

Sgt. Eric Wilson concluded that speed may have been a factor in the accident. “Unfortunately this area has really poor visibility so if you aren’t really careful or you are going slightly over the speed limit, it is very difficult to stop,” Wilson said.

R.I.P. Cedric Benson.
