A shooting involving a Texarkana Arkansas police officer resulted in the death of a man over the weekend.

The deceased man has been identified as 37-year-old Don Crowson. According to KSLA, officers received a call around 9:44 on Saturday, June 26, about a man in the 1100 block  jumping up and down on a fence and pacing in the street while yelling that he was going to kill someone. The caller told the dispatcher the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

According to police, responding officers made contact with the man in an apartment on the 1100 block of Hickory Street. The police department statement was as follows...

Upon making contact, the male charged the officers with an object (and) yelling that he was going to kill them,” says a statement from police. “One officer on scene fired his service weapon and struck the male.

It was not disclosed as to where the man was struck on his body. Officers rendered aid until Life Net arrived. Crowson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause and manner of death. There is also body cam footage of the incident that will be used in the investigation of the incident.

The responding officers were not injured. The officer who shot Crowson has not been revealed as of yet. We do know that he or she has been placed on paid leave pending investigation.
