Week 5 Local Black-Owned Business Spotlight: Craig’s Neighborhood Store

Majic 93.3 is so proud of our local black-owned businesses! For the next few months, we will highlight a black owned business each week. This week (week 5) we are highlighting Craig's Neighborhood Store.  

Craig's Neighborhood Store is owned and operated by Charles Craig, Sr. and his wife, Carolyn Craig. The quaint little store is located at 1521 Preston St. and carries almost anything you will find in a store triple the size. In addition, the store offers hot meals during the day, such as: gumbo, sloppy joes, chopped beef sandwiches, nachos, 2 for $1 hot dogs, and some of the best Jerk Chicken you will ever eat.
Mr. Craig is proud to share his 100-plus-year-old Jamaican recipes with the Texarkana community. He is also dedicated to making sure he leaves a legacy for his children and his children's children. He credits his business partner and wife, Carolyn Craig for being the backbone of the business.

During our interview, Mr. Craig shared the deep Jamaican roots and wisdom of his father who was also a business owner and a mover and shaker in the Texarkana Community. He shared a word of advice from his father that he holds near and credits for his success.

When you are in the area, stop by and visit the store. Haven't had Boston baked beans in a while? Got a craving for a chik-o-stick, Craig's Neighborhood Store is your kinda spot! Purchase some items and support the business. But if you don't purchase one item in the store, you must try the Jerk chicken. It's one of my favorite dishes in the city.
